Butterfly Dream

I submitted this haiga several months ago for a competition on another blog – so I thought I would share it with you – I hope you enjoy.  May you delight in a day of rest where you have wandering thoughts flitting randomly…and dream.  Blessings to you and yours today.

  1. aloha Kris – this is a beauty. i like the black and white – it’s strong. and the words white work well that way.

i’d like to push a little more space between the haiku and the butterfly but there isnt a lot of space to do that. the place is a good choice – imo. i can rise up from the words along with the butterfly and then drift back down to the words – visually moving my eye around the haiga yet keeping my eye well within the haiga. i have no need to go anywhere else other than to stay in the haiga.

and i like this ku a lot. you have strong images in the lines – wandering thoughts and how they flit randomly. that is clear and strong. and then to link that to dreams and butterflies – very cool – because, yeah butterflies and dreams are like that.

i also like that you just show me this connection. you havnt told me what to think about it or what you think about it, so that doesnt influence my own thinking. it allows me to be on my own with what i think about it – way cool. you simply show me the connection. i like this in haiku a lot. it becomes personal to me this way (imo) and it shows me something i had not considered – clearly and with that little/(big) element of ah and awe in the last line to go with the great first 2 lines that hang together so well.

yeah. i like this. a lot. fun. and insightful. potent and clear. very cool. aloha.

    • That was a photo of a monarch that I took and dabbled with in photoshop. Yeah, I liked how it turned out. I agree on the space. The day I completed the image I was so excited that I didn’t even think at the time to give it more space…considered it at one point, then after awhile I started to like the concentration of the space…and I left it that way…always good to chew on your thoughts.

      • oh yes. i often see After i post my work the things i miss while working on it. especially when we are posting things we do almost immediately – and within 24 hours to a week is immediate – altho a week of not looking at something is a good amount of time for the first re-look imo. it often takes seeing my work out side of the context in which it was created to begin to see it without seeing the bits and pieces of putting it together as the main blur before my eyes.

yeah, some space might help. it’s still a strong haiga – imo. aloha.

Would love to hear from you...
