City Skies

I am continuing to work with prompts from Rick Daddario during the month of September.  Todays prompt was dark and/or rich.  I only had a few minutes today to create but I wanted to share.  I think we are close to day 258(?) of 365-days of 2012.  It has been a gift to have prompts for a change of pace in this self challenge.  I look to revisit this haiga and give it more time.  Perhaps you have some ideas you would like to share.  The photo is rather pixellated.  I took the photo with an automatic-focus camera from the New Jersey side.

Hope it is a great day.

  1. aloha Kris – i think the pixellation is okay in this image. it could easily be considered intentional as it relates to the city lights in the buildings and then those reflected in the water. i dont often intentionally pixelate my images – but i do occasionally. and i do use a filter that gives a similar effect. i think with so many editing options available now pixellation is often intentional and acceptable. you might even want to try pushing toward that sometime just to play with it. i had a friend – still have a friend – and we used to shoot film – especially black and white. he liked the grain he could get in a print but doing things to intentionally increase that grain – which most people wanted to eliminate from their prints. he created beautiful and intriguing shots this way.

as flipside records said – great font choice.

i like this dark image with the sparkles – a black frosting with an ice sparkle necklace. way cool on the idea of constant change. just like the river. and the lights on and off in the buildings. fun. aloha.

  2. When I looked at this picture, I interpreted a little different. Being that this was 9/11 week..I thought of what was missing in this beautiful skline that can never be recaptured. And so this is what I wrote:

    Silent midnight skies
    voices lost inside the towers
    forever altered
