Textured Sands

A growing favorite on my list is to sit on the beach with a good book, watch the people, the clouds, the children play, and the waves continually change the shore’s formations.  It is a wonderful place to write, create, and find fodder for haiku.  I was lying on my beach chair the other day studying the textures, colors, and movement of the sands – quite an education – you should try some time.  What stood out to me was that each granule had a different color – some brown, white, tan, black, even light pink, but together they create the tan beach.

Hope you get a chance to rest and watch the world go by soon.

  1. Shouldn’t the 1st line have 5 syllables? Or am I just a pedant? I like your poem, but I think the addition of the means of texturing adds to the initial image:
    “[Footprint] textured sands/
    Memories of much ado/
    Drifting with the clouds/”
I guess is could be “raindrop textured sands” but that suggests an entirely different haiku, one, perhaps one a bit more forlorn.
    Sorry to be a buzzkill.

    • Love the addition of footprint…very much fun you created with this haiku. Traditional haiku usually has 5-7-5 syllables, but in contemporary haiku, that USA guide. Footprint works well. Your comment was constructive, thank you.

Would love to hear from you...
