Empty Nests – Haiku
These nests are what remain of a blue heron village. In the Spring each of these nests had young blue herons – pretty much at the same time. With binoculars, we could watch the progress of life: heads up, feeding, standing on the edge of the nest, hopping to branches, flying, and eventually empty nests. I was driving by this tree not too long ago, and the nests are what remain. It seemed like a barren village, with so many unknowns. In my ignorance, I do not know if they will return to nest, I need to do research, but even looking at the “empty nests” brings wonderful memories. I only hope that we will be blessed with a new village in the Spring.
